AI Calling Cost Per Minute Calculator

AI calling cost per minute: the headline rates vendors publish run from about $0.06 (Telnyx's example estimate, which includes inbound US telephony) to $0.31 (the top of Retell AI's stated range), and component-level totals can be higher when you choose premium models or voices. Rates come from what Bland AI, Vapi, Retell AI and Telnyx publish on their own pricing pages (reviewed October 2026). VoiceOI does not bill AI by the minute: bots are prepaid per bot per month, from $25 to $155 at list price, and your carrier bills the minutes separately.

Run Your Numbers: Per-Minute vs Per-Bot

Minutes callers are actually connected to the AI. Per-minute platforms bill these.

One bot handles one call at a time. Volume discount: 15% Off (10-49 Seats).

List price per bot per month, before volume discounts. Prices come from the VoiceOI price list.

Your carrier bills this on both sides. Default is $0.014, the Twilio outbound rate listed on Vapi's pricing page, reviewed October 2026. Use your own rate.

Does not change any price. It is only used to check your volume against the daily call limit of the per-minute plan you pick.

Bland lists LLM, transcription and voices in the rate. Telephony is billed separately, and transfer time is billed at $0.04/min extra (not modeled here). The Build plan lists 50 concurrent calls and 2,000 calls a day. Source: Bland AI's pricing page, reviewed October 2026.

On these inputs the per-bot bill is $5,832 a month lower than the per-minute platform.

  • Each bot would carry 5,000 connected minutes a month, about 2.8 hours a day on average. You pay for each bot every month whether or not it is on a call, so a lightly used bot costs more per connected minute.
  • The per-bot bill equals this per-minute bill at about 1,404 connected minutes a month (140 per bot). Below that, the per-minute platform costs less on price alone; above it, per-bot costs less.
  • VoiceOI bots have no per-bot minute caps, so the effective rate keeps falling the more minutes a bot handles.
  • Carrier cost is the same line on both sides, so it does not change which model is cheaper. VoiceOI does not bill AI minutes, but your carrier still bills every minute.

Estimates, not quotes. Per-minute rates are the ones listed on each vendor's pricing page in October 2026; computed rates add up components the vendor lists (see methodology below). VoiceOI prices are the published list prices with volume discounts and per-tier price floors applied. For current terms, see the VoiceOI pricing page.

Where a Per-Minute Rate Comes From

A voice AI minute can contain five paid layers: speech-to-text, a language model, text-to-speech, telephony and the platform that orchestrates them. Vendors package them differently, so two headline rates are rarely like-for-like. In short:

  • Retell AI states $0.07 to $0.31 per minute for its agents. Its own component list is wider: $0.055 per minute voice infrastructure, LLMs from $0.0016 to $0.32 per minute on its standard tier, and voices at $0.015 or $0.040, so premium choices can add up to more than its stated range.
  • Vapi lists $0.05 per minute hosting plus pass-through costs: language models from $0.0077 to $0.0452 per minute, transcription at $0.0095 to $0.0099 and ElevenLabs voices at $0.0146 to $0.0238.
  • Telnyx gives an example estimate of about $0.06 per minute made of a $0.05 voice engine, $0.0032 of local inbound US telephony and $0.0064 of LLM tokens. Outbound SIP trunking is listed separately, from $0.005 per minute.
  • Bland AI lists one rate ($0.12 to $0.14 per minute) that includes its LLM, transcription and voices, with telephony billed separately.

How VoiceOI Per-Bot Pricing Turns Into a Per-Minute Rate

VoiceOI is billed per bot, not per minute. A bot is one concurrent call slot, and the price per bot per month depends on the bot type and the connection: $25 per month and up for fronter bots, $50 and up for generative lead-gen bots, and $100 and up for closer bots at list price. Volume discounts reach 60% at 250 or more bots, and each tier has a price floor. The full table is on the VoiceOI pricing page.

Because the AI side is a flat monthly price rather than a per-minute fee, the effective rate per connected minute is the bot bill divided by the minutes the bot handles. A bot that talks for several hours a day has a low effective rate; a bot that talks little has a high one. VoiceOI bots have no per-bot minute caps. Carrier minutes are billed by your carrier on top, whichever way you buy the AI. To keep your existing carrier, see Twilio SIP trunk for AI voice agents and Telnyx SIP trunks.

AI Calling Cost Per Minute at Low, Medium and High Volume

These scenarios use stated assumptions, not customer data. Every scenario assumes the minutes are connected minutes, VoiceOI bots on the SIP Good Fronter tier (the Hosted SIP fronter tier that adds age and ZIP checks and closer comments), and competitor costs at the usage rates in the calculator. Carrier minutes at $0.014 per minute are shown on their own line because they apply on every platform.

  • A pilot or small team: 5,000 connected minutes a month on 2 concurrent bots.
  • A growing floor: 50,000 connected minutes a month on 10 concurrent bots.
  • A large outbound operation: 300,000 connected minutes a month on 50 concurrent bots.
  • Bland AI is priced on its Start plan in the low scenario and its Build plan ($299 a month included) in the other two. Bland lists daily call limits of 100 on Start and 2,000 on Build, so a high-volume operation may need its custom Enterprise plan, which is not priced here.
  • Vapi and Retell AI are usage costs only: plan fees, extra concurrency and phone numbers are not added. Retell AI's range runs from its lowest-priced LLM (GPT 5 nano, $0.0016 per minute) with a $0.015 voice, to its highest-priced standard-tier LLM (GPT 6 Astra, $0.32 per minute) with a $0.040 voice. Telnyx is its voice engine, platform fee and LLM token components, with telephony left to the carrier line.
  • Transfer time on Bland AI ($0.05 or $0.04 per minute) is not modeled. A VoiceOI transfer hands the live call to a human closer over SIP, and the closer's time is a labor cost on every platform.

The pattern is the point rather than any single figure: per-minute bills scale with talk time, while the per-bot bill is not billed per minute and scales with how many calls you need live at once, so a well-used bot spreads its monthly price over more minutes. VoiceOI bots have no per-bot minute caps. The platforms are also not like-for-like in what they do, so compare capability first, then cost.

When Per-Bot Pricing Costs More Than Per-Minute

Per-bot pricing is not always cheaper, and the calculator will show you when it is not. It costs more per connected minute when:

  • Bots are on calls for only a small part of the day. You pay for each bot every month whether or not it is on a call, so a lightly used bot costs more per connected minute.
  • You are testing with a few hundred minutes a month, where a pay-as-you-go rate carries no fixed commitment.
  • You need a custom conversational AI agent with API-level control. VoiceOI is a no-code builder for outbound calling and does not offer a public API today.

What the per-bot price covers, and what it does not

The per-bot price covers the AI side of an outbound call: the bot, its speech, voice and language model, which run on VoiceOI's own infrastructure by default. It does not cover carrier minutes, phone numbers on your carrier, or the human closers who take transferred calls. The Advanced Voice Engine option is listed as “2 Workers Free (then $15/worker)”.

Consent is a cost too: since the FCC's February 2024 ruling, AI-generated voices count as “artificial” voices under the TCPA, so telemarketing calls need prior express written consent, and compliance stays with you. See the TCPA controls VoiceOI provides. This is not legal advice.

Methodology and Sources

  1. Per-minute platform cost = connected minutes x the per-minute rate, plus any fixed monthly platform fee that comes with the plan.
  2. VoiceOI cost= bots x the tier's list price after the volume discount for that bot count, never below the tier's floor price.
  3. Effective rate = monthly bill divided by connected minutes.
  4. Carrier cost = connected minutes x your carrier rate, added to both sides. Carriers may round up to billing increments, which this model ignores.
  5. Break-even = (VoiceOI monthly bill minus any platform fee) divided by the per-minute rate.

Competitor figures were read from each vendor's own pricing page in October 2026. Computed rates sum components listed on the page; where a vendor's own example bundles telephony (Telnyx), telephony is left to the carrier line. Taxes, free credits, volume negotiation, transfer fees and enterprise terms are excluded. Sources: Bland AI's pricing page, Vapi's pricing page, Retell AI's pricing page, Telnyx's voice AI agent pricing page and Synthflow's pricing page (which lists enterprise contracts starting at $30,000 annually and scopes final pricing around call volume, concurrency and telephony setup, so it is not in the calculator). VoiceOI publishes this page and has an interest in the comparison; check every figure against the sources.

AI Calling Cost Per Minute FAQs

Straight answers on per-minute rates, per-bot pricing and carrier charges.

How much does AI calling cost per minute?

Published headline rates run from about $0.06 per minute (Telnyx's example estimate, which includes inbound US telephony) to $0.31 per minute (the top of Retell AI's stated range), and component-level totals can be higher when you pick premium models or voices. Bland AI lists $0.12 to $0.14 per minute with LLM, transcription and voices included. Figures are from each vendor's own pricing page, reviewed October 2026. The spread comes from which language model and voice you choose and whether telephony is bundled.

Does VoiceOI bill AI calling by the minute?

No. Each bot is prepaid monthly ($25 to $155 at list price, depending on bot type and connection, with volume discounts up to 60%) and there is no per-minute AI fee. Your carrier still bills the minutes of every call, so carrier cost is a separate line in every estimate on this page.

What is VoiceOI's effective cost per minute?

It is the monthly bot bill divided by the connected minutes your bots handle, so it falls as bots talk more and rises as they talk less. For example, one SIP Good Fronter bot at $55 a month that handles 2,500 connected minutes works out to $0.022 per minute before carrier charges; at 5,000 minutes it is $0.011. These examples assume your plan has no minute cap per bot; confirm the terms before you buy. The calculator above does this arithmetic for your own numbers.

Why does the carrier rate appear on both sides of the calculator?

Every outbound minute is carried by a telephone carrier, whichever AI platform sits on top. Some platforms bundle telephony into their rate and some bill it separately. The calculator adds your carrier rate to both sides so the comparison isolates the AI cost. If a platform you compare bundles telephony, enter a lower carrier rate to avoid counting it twice.

Can I use my own carrier with VoiceOI?

Yes. Hosted SIP bots work with any SIP carrier, including Twilio and Telnyx SIP trunks, added by pasting the carrier block into the Carrier Manager. VICIdial users run bots as remote agents, with outcomes written back to VICIdial.

When is per-minute pricing cheaper than per-bot pricing?

When your bots are connected for a small share of the day. You pay for each bot every month whether or not it is on a call, so a lightly used bot costs more per connected minute. The calculator shows the break-even volume for your inputs. Per-minute pricing is also easier to start small on, as long as you accept that the bill grows with every minute. Bland AI, for example, lists a plan with a $299 monthly fee and daily call limits on its pricing page, reviewed October 2026.
