Collection Agencies & Recovery Teams

AI Debt Collection Calls.
Reminders by Bot. Payment Conversations With Your Collectors.

VoiceOI places AI debt collection calls for collection agencies and recovery floors: payment reminders, follow-ups on broken promises to pay, and re-contact on accounts that went quiet. When a consumer is ready to talk, the bot transfers the live call to a human collector. Negotiation and payments stay with your people.

Collection Calls AI Voice Agents Can Handle

Bots suit the repetitive, high-volume calls on a collection floor. Conversations that need judgment go to people.

Payment reminder calls

Remind consumers about a due or past-due balance in wording your compliance team approved, and offer a collector.

Broken promise-to-pay follow-up

Call accounts that missed a promised payment and offer a collector to rework the arrangement.

Re-contact on quiet accounts

Retry accounts that haven't answered, on the schedule and retry rules you set, inside each consumer's calling window.

Transfer to human collectors

Consumers who want to pay, set up a plan, dispute the debt or ask questions go to a collector on the live call.

How an AI Debt Collection Call Works

One path for every account, from the first dial to the logged outcome.

  1. 1

    Load the accounts

Upload a CSV list to the built-in dialer, or keep accounts in VICIdial, where bots work as remote agents. Filter by state, area code or zip.

  2. 2

    Dial inside the consumer's hours

Campaigns call only inside the windows you set for each consumer's timezone, using the retry rules you choose.

  3. 3

    Handle machines

If a machine answers, the call ends and is logged as AM, and no voicemail message is left.

  4. 4

    Confirm the right party

The bot asks for the consumer by name and branches on the answer. Script it to end the call without mentioning the debt if it's the wrong person.

  5. 5

    Play the required disclosure

A recorded line plays your approved disclosure word for word.

  6. 6

    Remind and offer a collector

The bot delivers the reminder and asks whether the consumer wants to speak with a collector now. A spoken do-not-call request ends the call.

  7. 7

    Transfer and log

A yes becomes a live transfer over SIP to the collector your routing rules pick. Either way, the disposition, recording and transcript are saved.

  1. [CAMPAIGN] Reminder campaign, inside the consumer's calling window
  2. [CALL 1] Machine detected: call ended, logged AM
  3. [CALL 2] Right-party check: identity confirmed
  4. [BOT] Approved disclosure played as recorded
  5. [BOT] Reminder delivered, collector offered
  6. [XFER] Consumer said yes: handed to a collector
  7. [LOG] Disposition, recording and transcript saved

Recorded-Voice Bots for Approved Disclosure Wording

Collection calls carry legal wording, such as the notice that the call is from a debt collector. Pick the bot type by how much the wording may vary.

Recorded-voice bot: fixed wording

Plays fixed, pre-recorded lines in the order your branching script sets, so each consumer hears the disclosure your compliance team approved.

AI agent: freer conversation

An LLM-driven agent that works inside the persona, questions and rules you set. It suits calls where consumers ask questions; where wording must never change, choose a recorded-voice bot.

Build either type in the no-code AI voice agent builder and test every branch in the simulator first.

FDCPA, Regulation F and TCPA Duties Stay With Your Agency

VoiceOI is calling software, not a compliance program. These duties belong to the collector.

Disclosures

The initial communication must say the caller is attempting to collect a debt and that information obtained will be used for that purpose. Later communications must disclose that they come from a debt collector.

Call frequency

Regulation F presumes a collector is harassing if it places more than seven calls within seven consecutive days about a particular debt, or calls within seven consecutive days after a phone conversation about that debt.

Call times

Unless the collector knows otherwise, a time before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m. at the consumer's location is inconvenient.

Third parties

A collector may communicate about the debt with only a short list of people besides the consumer, which is why the right-party check comes first.

Artificial voices

Since the FCC's February 2024 ruling, AI-generated voices count as artificial voices under the TCPA. Telemarketing calls with one need prior express written consent, and TCPA consent rules reach collection calls too.

Source: CFPB Regulation F, 12 CFR 1006.14 (call frequency), 1006.6 (call times, third parties) and 1006.18 (disclosures), reviewed October 2026. Paraphrased and not exhaustive.

Your counsel decides how these rules and your state's collection laws apply to your portfolio; this page is not legal advice. Here is how VoiceOI's controls line up against those duties:

Live Transfer to Human Collectors

The bot's job ends when a consumer is ready to talk. It transfers the live call over SIP to a collector chosen by your routing rules and leaves the call; it doesn't stay on the line to introduce the consumer. On the Good Fronter tiers, the collector also receives AI-written notes summarizing the call.

Collectors handle what a bot shouldn't: negotiating plans and settlements, taking payments in your own payment systems, disputes, hardship and vulnerable consumers. Read more about AI live transfer.

Yale School of Management reports on a study by James Choi, Dong Huang, Zhishu Yang and Qi Zhang covering about 22 million cases from April 2021 to December 2022. Repayments collected by AI callers in the first 30 days past due were 9% lower than those collected by human callers, and still 5% lower a year later. AI callers also drew fewer verbal promises to repay, and promises made to AI were broken more often. This is one study of older AI callers, not of VoiceOI. It is why VoiceOI hands the payment conversation to your collectors.

Where the Bots Run: VICIdial or SIP

Inside VICIdial

Bots log into your collection campaigns as VICIdial remote agents. Your lists, recycling rules and reports stay in VICIdial, and bot calls come back with a disposition.

What VoiceOI Doesn't Do in Collections

  • Doesn't take payments or card and bank details, and doesn't send payment links.
  • Doesn't negotiate settlements or payment plans.
  • No collection-software or CRM integration yet; CRM integrations are coming soon.
  • Leaves no voicemail messages, and sends no SMS or email.
  • No inbound calls: consumers who call back reach your own lines.
  • Conversations are English-first.
  • No compliance certification. VoiceOI supplies controls; your agency stays responsible for compliance.

AI Debt Collection Calls: FAQs

Plain answers on legality, handoffs and payments.

Is AI debt collection legal?

Collection calls that use AI voices are regulated. The TCPA treats AI-generated voices as artificial voices, so its consent rules come into play, and the FDCPA and Regulation F set their own rules for collectors. Ask counsel how the TCPA, FDCPA and Regulation F apply to your program, and have them review your script, consent records and calling rules before launch.

Can AI replace human collectors?

Not on VoiceOI. Bots take the reminder and re-contact volume and transfer consumers who are ready to talk. Collectors negotiate, take payments, and handle disputes and hardship cases. The Yale study cited in the live transfer section of this page looked at older AI callers, not VoiceOI.

How does the handoff to a collector work?

A consumer who agrees to talk is put through to a collector on the live line, chosen by your routing rules, and the bot does not stay to introduce them. Collectors get AI-written notes on the Good Fronter tiers.

Can the bot take payments or set up payment plans?

No. VoiceOI does not take payments or card details. Transfer the consumer to a collector, who takes the payment or sets up the plan in your own systems.

Does the bot leave voicemail messages?

No. When a machine answers, the call ends and is logged as AM, so no message is left. Plan any voicemail strategy separately.

Can we make sure required disclosures are read word for word?

Yes: use a recorded-voice bot. It plays the pre-recorded lines your compliance team approved, in the order your script sets, and recordings and transcripts are there to check what was said.

Does VoiceOI limit how often an account is called?

You set the retry rules and calling windows for each campaign. Keep them, and your list recycling, inside Regulation F's call-frequency presumption and any state limits; that judgment stays with your team.

Does it integrate with our collection software?

Not yet. There is no collection-software integration today, and CRM integrations are coming soon. Bots running as VICIdial remote agents write dispositions back to VICIdial, recordings and transcripts are in the VoiceOI dashboard, and the Pro LG tiers can export a row per call to Google Sheets.
