Voicemail Drop:
Not Available Today

Voicemail drop, where a bot leaves a recorded message when it reaches an answering machine, isn't available in VoiceOI today. A bot that detects a machine ends the call and logs it as AM (answering machine). Here is what happens to those calls and how to work with them.

What Works Today: Answering Machine Detection

VoiceOI doesn't leave voicemails today. These parts of machine handling are available now.

Machines end the call

When a bot detects a voicemail greeting, it hangs up and logs the call as AM, so a detected machine is never transferred to your closers.

Phrase lists you control

Each organization keeps machine and do-not-call phrase lists you can edit, import and export. Recorded-voice scripts can add an AM Detect step for long greetings.

Retries and calling windows

Campaigns have scheduling, retry rules and timezone calling windows, so you choose when leads are called. On VICIdial, outcomes are written back to VICIdial.

What to Do With Machine-Answered Calls Today

Without voicemail drop, the work is tuning detection and choosing when to call leads again. Six steps for a campaign that reaches a lot of machines:

  1. 1Find the machine-answered callsLook for calls logged as AM in your call logs. Each one keeps its recording and transcript.
  2. 2Listen to a samplePlay a handful of recordings and read the transcripts to see which greetings your lead lists actually reach.
  3. 3Tune the machine phrase listAdd greetings that got through and remove broad phrases that ended calls with real people. The list is yours to edit, import and export.
  4. 4Retest in the simulatorTry a short "Hello?" and a typical voicemail greeting before the changed list goes live on a campaign.
  5. 5Plan the next attemptUse the campaign's scheduling, retry rules and timezone calling windows to decide when those leads are called again.
  6. 6Check short calls for missed machinesA short call with no AM outcome can be a greeting that slipped past detection. Add its wording to the list.

Machine-Answered Calls and Consent Rules

Whether a call ends on a greeting or on a person, the consent rules for placing it don't change. Since the FCC's February 2024 ruling, AI-generated voices count as "artificial" voices under the TCPA, so telemarketing calls that use them need prior express written consent. Load only leads who gave it.

VoiceOI's part is the controls: do-not-call phrases that end the call, an optional TCPA AI-voice disclosure, timezone calling windows, and a recording and transcript of every call. Compliance stays your responsibility, and none of this is legal advice. See TCPA controls for outbound calling. Source: FCC news release, February 8, 2024, reviewed October 2026.

Voicemail Features VoiceOI Doesn't Offer

  • Ringless voicemail: VoiceOI's bots place regular outbound calls. VoiceOI doesn't deliver messages to voicemail boxes without ringing the phone.
  • One-click voicemail drops for human reps: VoiceOI's bots make the calls, and your closers take the live transfers.

Voicemail Drop FAQs

Common questions about voicemail drop and machine handling in VoiceOI.

Can VoiceOI leave a voicemail today?

No. When a bot detects an answering machine, it ends the call and logs it as AM. It doesn't play a message on the machine.

Can a rep or closer drop a recorded message by hand?

No. VoiceOI's bots place the calls and closers take live transfers, so there is no voicemail drop button for a human rep.

What happens to leads whose calls reach a machine?

The call is logged as AM, with its recording and transcript, so you can see which leads reached a machine. You decide when to try them again with your campaign's scheduling and timezone calling windows. On VICIdial, the outcome is written back, so VICIdial's own list settings apply.

Can a transfer reach a voicemail greeting?

Not when the machine is detected: the call ends before any transfer. A greeting that slips past the checks is a missed machine, so review short calls and recordings, and add missed greetings to your machine phrase list.

Does VoiceOI offer ringless voicemail?

No. VoiceOI's bots place regular outbound calls, and VoiceOI doesn't deliver messages to voicemail boxes without ringing the phone.

Does detecting a machine change the consent rules?

No. Since the FCC's February 2024 ruling, AI-generated voices count as "artificial" voices under the TCPA, so telemarketing calls that use them need prior express written consent. Compliance stays your responsibility, and this is not legal advice.
