AI Fronter for
Call Centers

An AI fronter takes the first-contact seat on an outbound call center floor. VoiceOI's AI fronter dials your leads, ends calls that reach answering machines, asks your qualifying questions and live-transfers the people who qualify to your human closers. It works inside VICIdial as a remote agent or dials over SIP, from $25 per bot per month with no per-minute AI fee.

What Is a Fronter in a Call Center?

Outbound floors split each sale between two seats. The fronter is the first-contact caller: they open the call, ask a short set of qualifying questions and pass interested people on. The closer, usually a licensed agent or a senior salesperson, takes that live transfer and makes the sale.

An AI fronter is a voice bot in the fronter's seat. One bot runs one call at a time, so you scale by adding bots, and the people who qualify go to the same closers you have today. The closers stay human.

What the AI Fronter Does on Your Campaigns

These are the parts of the fronting job the bot takes over. Everything here is set up in the no-code builder and the campaign manager.

Dials your lead lists

Upload a CSV and dial from the built-in dialer through any SIP carrier, with state, area-code and ZIP filters, or take calls inside VICIdial as a remote agent.

Screens out answering machines

When the bot detects a machine or voicemail greeting, the call ends and is logged as AM. The bot does not leave a message.

Asks your qualifying questions

Up to 3 questions on Simple Fronter tiers and up to 5 on Good Fronter tiers, in the order you choose, with a branch for each answer.

Ends calls on do-not-call requests

When a caller says a phrase on your do-not-call list, such as asking not to be called again, the bot ends the call.

Gives an AI-voice disclosure

Optionally add an AI-voice disclosure to your campaigns, as part of the controls you set up for consent.

Live-transfers qualified leads

Qualified calls go over SIP to a human closer chosen by your closer routing rules.

Leaves notes for the closer

Good Fronter tiers (from $35 per bot) write AI comments for the closer and verify age and ZIP code before the transfer.

Runs on your schedule

Scheduling, retries for unanswered leads and timezone calling windows, with a realtime view of the campaign.

Logs every outcome

Dispositions, recordings and transcripts for every call, with outcomes written back to VICIdial on VICIdial campaigns.

Campaign controls live in the campaign manager, and the answering machine detection for call centers page explains how machine-answered calls are handled.

How You Build the Fronter Script

Fronter bots are built in the no-code AI voice agent builder, not coded.

A branching script you control

The fronter plays your voice lines along a branching script, so every call follows the path you designed: the opener, each qualifying question, the objection branches you wrote and the transfer step.

Start from a template or a real call

Pick a script from the template marketplace, or draft one from the transcript of a call your best fronter made, then edit it to fit your offer.

Test before it dials

Run the script in the simulator before it calls a real lead, then use recordings and transcripts to see where calls drop off and adjust the questions.

Speech recognition: Standard Voice Engine. Suited to simple screening bots and basic yes/no filtering. Included with your bots at no extra cost.

Want open-ended conversation instead of a set script? On the price list, generative AI comes with the LG agent for outbound lead generation, whose tiers don't include live transfers.

How the Handoff to Your Closers Works

When a lead meets the conditions in your script, the bot transfers the live call over SIP to the closer your routing rules choose. It does not stay on to introduce the caller; its part of the call ends at the transfer. On Good Fronter tiers it leaves AI-written comments, so the closer knows what was established before saying hello.

Leads who don't qualify get a disposition instead, and unanswered leads can be retried on your schedule. The AI live transfer page walks through every step, and the AI closer agent runs longer question flows when a short screen isn't enough.

Running AI Fronters Inside VICIdial

If your floor runs on VICIdial, fronter bots join your campaigns as remote agents. You can provision them in bulk, your lists and campaigns stay where they are, and each call's outcome is written back to VICIdial as a disposition. The VICIdial tiers connect through VICIdial or Asterisk, while the Hosted SIP tiers include a dedicated switch. Outside VICIdial, the built-in dialer can use any SIP carrier you add in the Carrier Manager. Setup details are on the VICIdial AI voice bot and VICIdial AI integration pages.

Every fronter tier includes live transfers, and the Hosted SIP tiers also include a dedicated switch. List prices are per bot per month, before volume discounts of up to 60%, and no tier drops below its price floor. Compare every bot class on the per-bot pricing page.

AI Fronter Cost vs a Human Fronter Seat

A fronter bot costs $25 to $55 per bot per month at list price, prepaid. One bot handles one call at a time. There is no per-minute AI fee, but your carrier bills the call minutes separately.

What a human fronter seat costs you

Use your own figures. No benchmark shown.

  • Wages, from your own payroll
  • Recruiting and training
  • Supervision and quality review
  • Turnover and replacement hiring

We don't publish a benchmark for human fronter pay because wages vary by country and campaign. Add up your own cost per seat and compare it with the bot list prices beside it.

VICIdial Good Fronter
$35/bot/mo
SIP Simple Fronter

SIP Good Fronter
$55/bot/mo

Plus carrier minutes. A bot is not a like-for-like swap for a person: it follows the script you give it, it doesn't sell, and it only transfers people who meet your rules.

The fair test is a pilot: run a few bots beside your human fronters on one campaign and compare the transfers your closers accept.

Outbound Only, Not an AI Front Desk

"Fronter" is easy to confuse with "front desk", but they are different jobs: a front desk answers incoming calls, while a fronter makes outgoing ones. VoiceOI's AI fronter only makes outbound calls. It does not answer inbound calls, act as a receptionist, route callers through IVR menus, book calendar appointments, send texts or take payments. Conversations are English-first, and CRM integrations are coming soon.

Compliance Controls for AI Fronter Calls

A fronter bot makes first-contact calls, so consent matters before the first dial: AI-voice telemarketing calls need the called person's prior express written consent under the TCPA. On the fronter you can set do-not-call phrase handling that ends the call, an optional AI-voice disclosure, timezone calling windows, and a recording and transcript of every call. Your organization stays responsible for compliance, and this is not legal advice. Read more about TCPA controls for AI voice calls and do-not-call (DNC) controls.

AI Fronter FAQs

What call center owners ask before putting bots in the fronting seat.

What is a fronter in a call center?

A fronter is the first-contact caller on an outbound floor. They open the call, ask a short set of qualifying questions and pass interested people to a closer, the salesperson who takes the live transfer and closes the sale. An AI fronter is a voice bot doing that first-contact job.

Can AI replace fronters?

AI can take over the fronting calls themselves: dialing, screening out answering machines, asking qualifying questions and transferring qualified leads. It does not replace your closers, and it only knows the script you give it. A sensible start is a small pilot on one campaign before moving more fronting to bots.

How does the handoff to closers work?

Once a lead's answers meet your transfer conditions, the call is handed live, over SIP, to the human closer your routing rules select. The bot drops off at that point rather than staying on to make an introduction. Good Fronter tiers also leave AI-written comments for the closer.

What does an AI fronter cost?

List prices run from $25 to $55 per bot per month, depending on the tier and on whether you connect through VICIdial or SIP. You prepay per bot, each bot handles one call at a time, there is no per-minute AI fee, and volume discounts reach 60%. Call minutes are billed by your carrier.

Does it answer inbound calls?

No. The AI fronter is outbound only. It is not an AI receptionist or front desk, and it does not answer or route inbound calls.

Can the AI fronter work inside VICIdial?

Yes. Fronter bots run as VICIdial remote agents, you can provision them in bulk, and each call's outcome is written back to VICIdial as a disposition.

What happens when the AI fronter reaches an answering machine?

When answering-machine detection picks up a machine, the call ends and is logged as AM (voicemail) rather than being transferred. The bot does not leave voicemail messages.

Does the AI fronter speak other languages?

Conversations are English-first. If your campaigns need other languages, VoiceOI isn't the right fit today.
