Final Expense AI Calling Script: Sample Flow

Final Expense AI Calling Script for Call Centers

A final expense AI calling script is the branching set of lines an AI fronter follows to screen a lead for final expense insurance and hand the live call to a licensed agent. This guide gives a sample flow you can adapt, shows where consent, do-not-call handling and the AI-voice disclosure fit, and states what the bot should never say.

Final expense is small whole-life insurance sold to seniors, usually through outbound call centers. The people on the other end are often older and may be wary of calls, so the tone should be calm, short and respectful. The bot's job is narrow: confirm who it is talking to, ask a few facts, and pass the call to a licensed agent. It does not sell anything.

Before you use any script

  • Consent comes first. Since the FCC's February 2024 ruling, AI-generated voices count as artificial voices under the TCPA, so telemarketing calls with them generally need prior express written consent. Call only people who gave that consent for this kind of call. You remain responsible for compliance, and this is not legal advice.
  • Use the controls. VoiceOI offers do-not-call phrase handling that ends the call, an optional AI-voice disclosure, timezone calling windows and recordings and transcripts. See TCPA controls and do-not-call handling.
  • Mind the question limit. The number of questions is limited by tier: up to 3 on the Simple Fronter tiers and up to 5 on the Good Fronter tiers. The sample below has two short confirmations and five questions. Check with VoiceOI how confirmations count against the limit before you build.
  • The bot never quotes or sells. It does not state prices, benefit amounts, health-based approval or "guaranteed acceptance". The licensed agent does that.

The flow at a glance

  1. Opening and disclosure
  2. Confirm the person
  3. Q1: age
  4. Q2: ZIP code
  5. Q3: interest in coverage for final expenses
  6. Q4: whether they have a policy today
  7. Q5: willing to talk to a licensed agent now
  8. Transfer to a licensed agent, or end

Exits at any point: do-not-call, wrong number, not interested, "not now", answering machine, "are you a robot?".

Sample script, with branches

Replace the bracketed items with your own. Keep each line short.

1. Opening and disclosure

"Hello, this is an automated assistant calling for [Agency Name]. Am I speaking with [First Name]?"

  • Yes: go to step 2.
  • No, wrong number: "Sorry to have bothered you. Goodbye." End the call and log wrong number.
  • "Who is this?" / "What is this about?": "I'm an automated assistant calling for [Agency Name] about final expense coverage you asked about. Is this a good time for a few quick questions?"
  • "Are you a robot?": "Yes, I'm an automated assistant. I can connect you to a licensed agent after a few questions." This line is optional wording you control; many campaigns state it up front.
  • "Stop calling" or any do-not-call phrase: "Understood. I'll make sure you're not called again. Goodbye." The call ends and the outcome is logged.
  • Answering machine detected: the call ends and is logged as a machine outcome. No message is left.

2. Confirm the reason

"You asked about coverage to help with final expenses, like funeral costs. Is that right?"

Use this line only if your leads asked for information about this coverage. If they did not, you have a consent problem to fix before scripting.

  • Yes: continue.
  • No / "I didn't ask for that": "I apologize. Goodbye." End the call and log the outcome, and have your team review the lead's consent and add the number to your own suppression list if needed. The bot should not promise that the person will not be contacted.
  • "Not now": "No problem. Thank you for your time. Goodbye." End the call, log the outcome and let your campaign retry rules schedule another attempt.

3. Question 1: age

"Could I ask what year you were born?"

If your campaign has an age range, set it in the script as a rule. The Good Fronter tiers verify age and ZIP.

  • Within your range: continue.
  • Outside your range: "Thank you for your time. That's all I needed today. Goodbye." End the call.
  • Declines to say: "That's fine. I can't go on without it, so thank you for your time. Goodbye."

4. Question 2: ZIP code

"What is your ZIP code?"

Check that it is in a state your agents are licensed in. The Good Fronter tiers verify ZIP.

  • In your area: continue.
  • Outside: thank them and end the call.

5. Question 3: coverage interest

"Are you looking for coverage to help your family with final expenses?"

  • Yes: continue.
  • Not interested: "Thank you for your time. Goodbye." End and log not interested.
  • Asks about price or benefits: "A licensed agent can go over all of that with you. I just need two more quick questions." Do not give figures.

6. Question 4: current coverage

"Do you have a life insurance policy now, or is this something you're just starting to look at?"

Either answer continues. This is for the agent's notes, not a screening cut-off unless your own rules say otherwise.

7. Question 5: ready to speak

"Would you like to speak with a licensed agent now? It only takes a moment to connect you."

  • Yes: go to step 8.
  • No, call me later: "Of course. Thank you for your time. Goodbye." End the call, log the outcome and let your campaign retry rules schedule another attempt.
  • No: "Thank you for your time. Goodbye." End the call.

8. Transfer

"Thank you. I'm connecting you with a licensed agent now. Please stay on the line."

The live call is handed to your closer over SIP. On the Good Fronter tiers the AI also writes closer comments about what was established, such as the age, ZIP and the answers to the questions above; the Simple Fronter tiers transfer without closer comments. The bot does not stay on the line to introduce the caller; it passes the call and, on the Good Fronter tiers, the notes.

What the bot should never say

  • Prices, premiums, benefit amounts or "as low as" figures.
  • That anyone is "approved" or has "guaranteed acceptance".
  • That the call is from a government program or a named insurer unless it truly is.
  • Medicare or health-insurance claims. This script is for final expense only.
  • Anything that pressures someone who says no.

Tips for a gentler call

  • Keep lines under 20 words and leave pauses.
  • When someone is busy, thank them and end the call politely; retry rules decide when to try again.
  • Use plain words: "funeral costs", not "burial indemnity".
  • Read the transcripts of your first few hundred calls, listen for where people hang up, and shorten that part.

Testing the script

Build the script in the no-code script builder, then run it in the simulator, typed or spoken, before any real lead is dialed. Try the awkward cases: someone who mumbles a birth year, someone who asks "is this a robot?" twice, someone who says "take me off your list" halfway through a sentence.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my own script? Yes. This sample is a starting point; the builder takes a branching script, and the number of questions is limited by bot tier (up to 3 on Simple Fronter, up to 5 on Good Fronter).

Will the bot quote policies? No. It screens and transfers; your licensed agent quotes.

What consent do I need for AI-voice calls? Telemarketing calls with AI-generated voices generally need prior express written consent. Ask your lawyer to confirm what applies to your lists and states.

Does VoiceOI sell final expense live transfers? No. VoiceOI is software for your own campaigns. It does not sell leads or transfers.

For the full product page, see final expense AI calling, and for how the handoff works, AI live transfer. The bot that runs this script is the AI fronter for call centers.
