AI for BPO Call Centers: Where Outbound Bots Fit

Calling AI for BPO and Call Centers

AI for BPO call centers means using software to take over repetitive work that agents do on outsourced campaigns, so the people on the floor spend their time on conversations that need them. This guide covers the outbound side only: where voice bots fit on a BPO's calling campaigns, what stays with people, how per-bot pricing helps with per-client budgets, and a pilot plan that keeps clients comfortable.

AI in BPO is often discussed in terms of inbound support, chat or agent assist. Outbound sales and lead-generation floors have a different problem, which is a high volume of dials for a small share of real conversations. That is the part this guide addresses.

Where AI fits in a BPO outbound operation

On a typical outbound campaign for a client, agents spend most of their paid time on machines, wrong numbers and quick refusals. An AI voice bot can do the first-contact screen:

  • It dials through your dialer, or through VoiceOI's built-in one.
  • It detects answering machines and ends those calls.
  • It opens the call, asks the client's qualifying questions and handles scripted objections.
  • It ends the call with a logged disposition, such as a transfer, a do-not-call request or an answering machine.
  • When someone qualifies, the live call is handed to a human closer over SIP. On the Good Fronter tiers the closer also gets AI-written notes; the Simple Fronter tiers transfer without closer comments.

This is the fronter and closer model, with the bot as the fronter. For the role in detail, see the AI fronter for call centers.

What stays with people

An AI fronter does not replace closers. On a sales campaign a person still does the selling, answers the unscripted questions that matter and builds the relationship. The question for a BPO is how to move agents from dialing to closing, and that is a staffing decision, not a software one.

Is there still room for people? Yes. Closers, team leads who tune scripts, quality reviewers who read transcripts, and compliance staff all stay. The jobs that shrink are the ones made of dialing, hearing a machine and dialing again.

Fronter seat cost vs per-bot cost

Start with your own payroll for a human fronter seat, including recruiting, training and management. We do not quote an average because pay varies by country and contract, and none is sourced here.

VoiceOI bills per bot per month. List prices run from $25 to $155 per bot depending on bot type and connection, with volume discounts of up to 60% at 250 or more bots, never below each tier's floor. Fronter bots start at $25. The carrier bills call minutes. A bot handles one call at a time, so size the number of bots to the concurrency your campaigns need. See pricing.

Budgeting per client

A BPO runs many campaigns for many clients, and each needs its own budget. Per-bot pricing helps because the monthly cost is predictable: bots times the per-bot rate, with no per-minute AI fee that grows with talk time. Your carrier's minutes are a separate line you can pass through or absorb.

VoiceOI supports multi-tenant organizations, which are separate and billed per organization. Volume discounts apply to the number of concurrent bots, so a larger operation pays less per bot.

Working with the client's dialer

For BPOs that run VICIdial, VoiceOI bots run as VICIdial remote agents, with bulk provisioning and outcomes written back as dispositions, so the dialer and its reports stay. See the VICIdial AI voice bot page. Floors that do not use VICIdial can dial through any SIP carrier, including Twilio and Telnyx. The SIP trunk for AI voice agents page covers that.

Compliance on outsourced campaigns

The FCC's February 2024 ruling treats AI voices as artificial voices under the TCPA, which generally means prior express written consent for telemarketing. On a BPO campaign that raises a contract question: who holds the consent records, and who is responsible if a list is wrong? Settle that with each client in writing.

VoiceOI provides controls (do-not-call phrase handling that ends the call, an optional AI-voice disclosure, timezone calling windows, and recordings and transcripts). The customer remains responsible for compliance. This is not legal advice. See TCPA controls and do-not-call handling.

What VoiceOI does not do

  • It does not take inbound calls or act as a receptionist.
  • CRM sync is coming soon, so results come out as dispositions, recordings and transcripts rather than into a client's CRM. Google Sheets export is on the Pro LG tiers only.
  • No calendar booking or SMS.
  • Conversations are English-first.
  • It is not a predictive, power or parallel dialer for pacing human agents.
  • It does not claim HIPAA, SOC 2 or similar certifications, so campaigns that require them are out of scope.

A pilot plan for one client

  1. Pick one campaign where agents spend most of their time on machines and quick refusals, with a client who has agreed to the approach.
  2. Write the script with the client and test it in the simulator until they sign off.
  3. Run a few bots next to human fronters for a couple of weeks.
  4. Compare three numbers: conversations per hour, qualified transfers that closers accept, and the share of closer time spent selling.
  5. Review recordings and transcripts with the client, then tune the opening and questions.
  6. Scale only what works, one campaign at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Will AI replace my agents? For outbound first-contact screening it can take over the dialing and screening; closers, reviewers and team leads stay.

Can I run bots for several clients? Yes. VoiceOI supports multi-tenant organizations, and billing is per organization.

What does it cost per client? Bots times the per-bot price, from $25 per bot per month at list, plus carrier minutes.

Does it handle inbound calls? No. It is outbound only.
